A 60-day cruise through the Australian Coast was terminated days after the death of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a isolated island.

The passenger had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a pause. The liner left without her and returned after some time after the crew realised the lady was missing.

An extensive rescue mission located her remains the following day.

Officials are examining the event, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator stated that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that guests would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated communication, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the vessel in the Australian city upon its arrival.
